Aashish Manglik, MD, PhD

Dr. Manglik is a physician-scientist interested in understanding how the human body senses and responds to external stimuli. After finishing his medical training in 2016, Dr. Manglik began his independent research career as the first Stanford Distinguished Fellow at Stanford University School of Medicine in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology. He joined UCSF in 2017 and now focuses his research on G protein-coupled receptors to develop new medications that are more effective and have fewer side effects.

Sam Hawgood, MBBS, became UCSF’s 10th chancellor in July 2014. He previously served as dean of the UCSF School of Medicine and vice chancellor for medical affairs. In addition to his four-decade distinguished career at UCSF, he is renowned internationally for neonatology research. A native of Australia, Chancellor Hawgood earned his medical degree with first-class honors from the University of Queensland in Brisbane. He trained in pediatrics as a resident and specialized in neonatology as a fellow.
